Infineon Technologies AG. is considering a merger with an unnamed Asian company, Financial Times Deutschland reported, citing no sources.
Previously media reports said that the company has held talks with Dutch peer NXP as well as U.S. company Freescale on a possible merger.
Infineon is currently running through all three options, with the data necessary for a final decision to be completed by late summer, the paper added.
However, the company's main priority remains to swiftly reduce its 77.47 percent stake in ailing subsidiary Qimonda AG (nyse: QI)., the paper added.
Sources familiar with the matter told the paper that Elpida Memory Inc. -- with which Qimonda recently entered a far-reaching cooperation in the field of memory chip production -- is seen as the preferred buyer.
Elpida has previously signalled it is generally interested in acquiring a stake in Qimonda, a holding which caused Infineon to post a loss of about 1.39 billion euros in the second quarter of the financial year.
