Grace Semiconductor Corp. is about to build up a European headquarters, based in Villach, Austria. The entity is reportedly led by former Infineon CEO Ulrich Schumacher.
On its web site, Grace announces that the subsidiary has already been established in April. However, it is not yet possible to reach the company by phone. The new entity will consolidate all European Grace activities, covering sales and support as well as chip design.
German magazine Wirtschaftswoche reports that Schumacher oversees the unit and that he already has taken over 30 chip designers from Micronas group which runs an automotive and consumer electronics design center in Villach. A Micronas spokesperson acknowledged that 30 analog IP designers have been transferred to Grace Europe, but declined to provide details.
In Villach, also Schumacher's former employer Infineon runs a large business unit focusing on automotive and power electronics. According to the Wirtschaftswoche report, Schumacher in January hired Infineon Austria's former vice president Werner Reczek.
