Santa Clara, Calif-based GPU giant Nvidia Corp has paid $25 million for a license to Transmeta Corp’s LongRun and LongRun2 technologies and other intellectual property for use in connection with Nvidia products.

Transmeta explained that the agreement grants Nvidia a non-exclusive and fully paid-up license to all of Transmeta’s patents and patent applications, as well as a non-exclusive license and transfer of certain Transmeta advanced power management and other computing technologies.

The LongRun2 technology is a set of advanced power management, leakage control and process compensation technologies that are meant to reduce the negative effects of increasing leakage power and process variations in new process geometries, the company said.

Meanwhile, Transmeta said it is developing a portfolio of supporting intellectual property soft IP and hardware blocks that can be used by customers to more quickly integrate LongRun2 into their designs.

The company also still licenses its Crusoe and Efficeon microprocessor technologies.

Les Crudele, president and CEO of Transmeta commented in a statement, “We believe that this agreement both illustrates the value of Transmeta’s intellectual property and technologies to our industry and realizes for Transmeta stockholders an immediate return from the strategic licensure of our intellectual property rights.”
