TSMC, UMC July sales dropped

Monday, August 11, 2008

TSMC and UMC both announced July sales that were weakened by the global slowing on a macroeconomic level.

TSMC’s July net sales on an unconsolidated basis were $987.3 million (30.9 billion New Taiwanese dollars), up 8.3% sequentially from June, and 7.3% higher than July 2007. Unconsolidated revenues for January through July totaled $6.45 billion (201.7 billion NT), an increase of 22.3% compared to the same period in 2007.

On a consolidated basis, TSMC’s July net sales were $1.02 billion (31.8 billion NT), up 7.9% sequentially over June and 7.9% higher year-over-year from July 2007. TSMC’s consolidated revenues for January through July totaled $6.6 billion (207.4 billion NT), 22.5% higher than the same period in 2007.

Meanwhile, UMC reported unaudited net sales for July of $273 million (8.5 billion NT), up 5.3% sequentially from June, but 15.1% lower year-over-year from July 2007.

UMC’s sales for January through July were $1.85 billion (57.8 billion NT), down 0.7% from the same period in 2007.

To be sure, both foundries are bolstering for a rough Q3, as both expect sales to be lower than is seasonally expected, which they disclosed recently with their Q2 financial results.
