ProMos report 2nd Quarter smaller losses

Thursday, August 21, 2008

ProMOS Technologies announced that its losses in the second quarter have shrunk by about 30%, making it the most improved company among Taiwan's DRAM players in the quarter.

ProMOS recorded losses of NT$5.62 billion (US$178.8 million) in the second quarter, down from NT$8.05 billion in the first quarter. The smaller loss was primarily driven by upward trending contract prices in the second quarter, full conversion to 70nm on stable yields and more sales exposure to niche products.

Some memory makers believe that demand should rebound after being suppressed during the Beijing Olympics. But some industry players noted that they have not seen any signs of rebound yet, then DRAM prices may hit new lows.

Contract price of the benchmark 1Gb DDR2-800 have fallen by an approximate 9% to US$2.09 in the third quarter and spot prices of the same-specification chip have fallen by 13% to US$1.86 in the same period.
