Mainstream 8Gb and 16Gb NAND flash chips prices are expected to fall by 10% in late August.
Samsung and SanDisk are pessimistic about the NAND flash market's future outlook, which has shaken the market's confidence causing contract prices to slip.
Currently, 16Gb NAND flash is the mainstream capacity. A 16Gb NAND flash chip's spot price is around US$2.7, close to the price of an 8Gb chip at the beginning of this year, indicating the advance of process technology and dropping costs have successfully completed the transition of the mainstream capacity.
Sources believe that inventory clearance is the main priority for now, since both Samsung and Hynix have transferred their production capacity from NAND flash to DRAM or reduced their NAND flash production. New capacity in the second half this year will be limited.
