Jedec Solid State Technology Association (JEDEC) and the MultiMediaCard Association (MMCA) have merged.
Jedec said that certain MMCA assets, including e-MMC and miCARD technologies, have been merged into Jedec. The merger, effective Sept. 22, sprung form a partnership on the development of e-MMCv4.2 and v4.3 specifications, the organizations said.
The boards of directors of MMCA and Jedec approved the transfer, intended to advance further improvement of existing specifications and support future embedded memory solutions, they said.
"The merger with MMCA encourages faster technology advancement in the memory card business and a transition from traditional card solutions to more versatile embedded and external solutions, meeting high-speed requirements, while optimizing platform designs and cost-efficiency," said Mian Quddus, chairman of Jedec's board of directors, in a statement.
