Fabless semiconductor company revenue totaled $13.9 billion in the second quarter of 2008, rising 4 percent quarter-over-quarter and 9 percent year-over-year according to the Global Semiconductor Alliance industry group. This shows growth slowing compared with the first quarter when fabless sales jumped 16 percent on an annual basis.
At the same time worldwide semiconductor revenue totaled $67.4 billion in CYQ2 2008, falling 2 percent quarter-over-quarter, but rising 5 percent year-over-year. As a result fabless semiconductor revenue in the second quarter climbed to 21 percent of the Q2 2008 semiconductor sales total.
Worldwide semiconductor revenue totaled $136.1 billion in first half of 2008, rising 5 percent year-over-year. Fabless revenue totaled $27.3 billion in the first half of 2008, rising 12 percent year-over-year. As a result first half fabless revenue equated to 20 percent of the first half 2008 semiconductor sales total.
The GSA was previously called the Fabless Semiconductor Association. It announced the change of name in December 2007.
