Inotera Memories and Nanya Technology have both announced cuts in their DRAM capacity
Currently, Inotera's monthly production is 130,000 units and the 20% reduction is a suitable range for the current DRAM market, however if the industry continues to get worse, the company will make further adjustments, noted Kao.
Pei-lin Pai, spokesperson and vice president of global sales and marketing at Nanya has announced that the company will slow down the process of transferring from Qimonda's 70nm process to Micron's 68nm process until the first quarter or next year, which will indirectly reduce capacity. The company expects the capacity reduction to peak in January and February next year at around 50%.
60% of Nanya's current capacity is supplied by Inotera, while the other 40% is produce at its 12-inch fab. Nanya's bit growth will be affected by both Inotera's capacity cuts and its own reduction in process node transition and will drop from 30% in the third quarter to zero in the fourth quarter.
