Hewlett-Packard has introduced the TouchSmart IQ518 all-in-one PC emphasizing its 22-inch multi-touch ready panel.
The system will be priced at under US$1798, but with expected reductions in the cost of multi-touch panels, the average selling price (ASP) of similar all-in-one PCs is likely to drop US$700 within the next year leading to significant sales growth compared to traditional desktops, according to HP.
Currently all-in-one products account for just 5% of HP's total desktop product lines, however, growth of all-in-one products can be expected in 2009 with the growing popularity of multi-touch technology and lower prices helping them to cut into the mainstream market, the company pointed out.
Fellow vendors, Lenovo, Asustek Computer and Acer are also expected step into the all-in-one PC with multi-touch segment in the near future, according to market watchers.
