Notebook manufacturers is keeping an eye on weak demand at the beginning of the end-of-year holiday high season starting later this month, vendors will reduce their order volumes to notebook makers.
First-tier notebook vendors including Hewlett-Packard and Dell have adopted a strategy of placing several small volume rush orders with short lead times for the high season this year, while Acer has tightened up its inventory control and also demanded shorter lead times for shipments from makers, noted sources at notebook makers.
A number of notebook players have a pessimistic outlook for market moving into 2009, with channel vendors expecting their sales will be down 20% at the end of the first half of 2009 compared with the fourth quarter this year.
