Major Taiwan DRAM makers Nanya Technology, Powerchip Semiconductor Corporation (PSC) and ProMOS Technologies are estimated to post revenue drops of 40-50% sequentially in November, with their combined revenues expected to fall drastically to below NT$5 billion (US$149 million) as a result of the companies' production cuts, according to market sources.
In October, the three DRAM makers recorded combined revenues of NT$7.85 billion. Each of the players may generate only NT$1.2-1.6 billion in November, indicated the sources.
In addition, local DRAM makers are facing fierce price competition from Korean players, who have the advantage from the depreciating Korean won. Taiwan's DRAM players have decided to turn down some orders offering extremely low quotes, avoiding extended losses, according to the makers.
