With the ever increasing demand of digital-savvy individuals, who use both Windows and Mac computers, Hewlett-Packard (HP) has unveiled ex485 and ex487 series to be available around the mid January 2009.
These servers will be available in 750-gigabyte and 1.5-terabyte, respectively. Rajesh Dhar, country manager (TSG) at HP India, declined to comment on the India availability and pricing.
The servers will offer multimedia streaming, expandability, and ease-of-use that may take servers out of the realm of IT departments. It is a storage device to enable better home automation, and will serve as a central brain for a home network- said sources.
It provides Ethernet support to both wired and wireless PCs through a wireless router. Based on the Microsoft Windows XP Era Ends home server platform, it is powered by Intel Celeron, 2.0 GHz 64-bit processor and 2 GB of 800-MHz DDR2 DRAM. The server will facilitate security and storage, as well as organize the content from anywhere on a network, the company said.
