Fujitsu buys Infineon software development group

Tuesday, January 27, 2009 Fujitsu Microelectronics Europe (FME) has taken over a software development of Infineon subsidiary Comneon GmbH. The Linz (Austria) based lab has significant expertise in the segment of automotive embedded systems.

With the move, FME plans to strengthen its standing in industrial and, first of all, in automotive projects based on its own hardware platforms. The Linz development lab will support FME's design teams in its Automotive Business Unit, based in Langen (Germany), as well as its Graphics Competence Center in Munich.

According to an FME release, target applications include automotive system solutions for driver information, body and chassis control and HMI. EE Times Europe has reason to believe that some of these activities are centering around innovative dashboard designs which include the Apix data connection technology.

In addition, the Linz software unit will develop similar projects for industrial controls applications, including HMIs. The activities will encompass 2D HMI and 3D graphics as well as application software and low-level drivers, the company said. Also AUTOSAR-related software will be developed at the unit.

According to FME, the Linz unit currently 48 employs software developers.

Comneon's main activity is supplying system software solutions for Infineon's mobile communications platforms and navigation systems. The Comneon headquarters, based in Nuremberg, Germany, is not affected by the move.
