Russia could be interested in insolvent DRAM manufacturer Qimonda. After talks with Russian prime minister Vladimir Putin, the president of the Saxony region of Germany, Stanislaw Tillich, said Putin has discussed the possibility of Russia investing in Qimonda. "How serious the Russian interest in Qimonda was demonstrated by the fact that the Russian Industry Minister Viktor Christenko was participating in part at the talks," Tillich's office was reported to have said by Reuters, Putin has asked Christenko to oversee the assessment, the report added.
At Qimonda however, no details are known. "We are not aware of any Russian company having announced any interest in such an investment," a source at the DRAM company said. Other insiders pointed out that on the insolvency administrator's contact list were several Russian companies. However, "without additional support from politics, this kind of investment is not possible at all," the source said. For this reason, the contacts between Putin who served in Dresden during the cold war and the Saxon minister president were "helpful."
