Japan's Advantest has reported sales of 76.7 billion yen ($792.3 million) for its fiscal year, down 58.1 percent over the previous year. It also posted a net loss of 74.9 billion yen ($773.9 million) for its fiscal year, compared to a net of 16.6 billion yen ($171.3 million) a year ago.
ATE orders dropped by 45 percent for the quarter. Advantest also reported a loss of 64.2 billion yen ($663 million) in the quarter, compared to a 3.3 billion yen ($34.1 million) loss in the same period the previous year,.
Advantest recently said it plans to cut 1,200 jobs, or 24-to-26 percent of its headcount, by its fiscal year 2008, which ends March 31. This week, it announced more cuts. ATE giant Advantest (Tokyo) previously operated four separate software development subsidiaries.
Advantest Tohoku Systems Co. Ltd., Advantest Tokyo Systems Co. Ltd. and Advantest Kansai Systems Co. Ltd. have been absorbed into Advansoft Development Corp. as of April 1. Advantest previously operated four subsidiaries that performed separate manufacturing. The consolidation of these into a single subsidiary is expected to improve production efficiency.
