DRAM contract prices are set to rise 10-15% to between US$9-10 per GB in May, up from US$8-8.5 last month, according to DRAMeXchange.
Some DRAM makers reportedly are looking to set a target of US$12 or US$13 per GB for May, as demand has started to recover amid shrinking supply, DRAMeXchange commented. OEM clients have begun to restock inventory.
Citing industry sources, DRAMeXchange also noted that Elpida Memory and Powerchip Semiconductor Corporation (PSC) have stopped shipping chips to the spot market spurring speculation that spot market prices for DDR2 1Gb will be driven up by the end of June.
If DRAM chipmakers continue with scaled-down production and inventory controls, DDR2 1Gb chips are expected to climb to US$1.50 soon, DRAMeXchange said.
An executive at memory-module maker Kingston Technology said Monday (May 4) that DRAM prices are expected to cross the US$1.50 mark in the third quarter of 2009, largely due to demand from the China market.
