AMD put focus on MPU, graphic integration

Friday, May 8, 2009

AMD has reorganized its operating model with the aim of better optimizing its operations to drive performance graphics and MPUs and to also further integrate its x86 processor and graphics technologies.

“We are tightening our focus on delivering the winning products and platforms our customers want based on AMD’s industry-leading microprocessor and graphics technologies,” said Dirk Meyer, AMD president and CEO, in a statement Wednesday afternoon. “The next generation of innovation in the computing industry will be grounded in the fusion of microprocessor and graphics technologies. With these changes, we are putting the right organization in place to help enable the future of computing.”

In making the changes, the company has reorganized itself around on four functions - products, technology, marketing, and customers and has appointed group heads to lead the units.

The products group will be led by Rick Bergman and will be responsible for delivering all of AMD’s platforms and products and aligning the graphics and MPU product development groups into a single unified organization. AMD’s Jeff VerHeul will head the processor solutions engineering team, tasked with delivering the company's platform silicon and with improving time-to-market and innovation for near-term roadmaps.

AMD's advanced technology group will be led by Chekib Akrout and will focus on developing AMD’s future technologies.
