DRAM bit growth will be in the 10-20% range in 2009, but will likely reach 20-30% in 2010, according to researcher DRAMeXchange.
DRAM supply bit growth in 2009 will be under 10% and demand bit growth will be lower than 20%, according to Joyce Yang, vice president of industry research for researcher DRAMeXchange. With supply bit demand lower than demand bit growth, DRAM prices are likely to rise later in the year or early next year.
Yang says bit growth is lower because more netbook computers are shipping. The smaller size computers use less memory than notebooks or desktop computers.
The bit growth rates for 2009 are lower compared to other years. In the past, DRAM bit growth was as high as 80-90% when the economy was robust and computer demand strong.
