NEC Display Solutions of America announced that the 43-inch CRV43 widescreen display would be available in July. The CRV43 has an estimated street price of US$7,999.
With a 32 to 10 aspect ratio and a 2,880-by-900 native pixel resolution, the CRV43 is like having a pair of 21-inch widescreen displays side-by-side on your desk. While you'd probably position two displays at an angle, the CRV43 is curved for optimal viewing. Also, the CRV43 is seamless, whereas a pair of displays would have the bezel between the two screens. A NEC representative said the CRV43 uses a "new and unique" adaptation" of Digital Light Processing (DLP) technology where four DLP light engines create a single on-screen image.
According to NEC, the CRV43 has a brightness rating of 200 nits, a .02 millisecond response rate, a 10,000 to 1 contrast ratio, and a 12-bit dynamic range. NEC says the display covers 100 percent of the sRGB color gamut, and 99.3 percent of the Adobe RGB gamut.
Connectivity options include single-link DVI-D and HDMI for video. The display will also have four USB 2.0 ports.
The CRV43 measures 41.5-by-20.8-by-15.2 inches and weighs 45.5 pounds. NEC provides a three-year parts and labor warranty, which include the backlight.
