Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) saw a narrower on-year revenue drop for May 2009, while United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC) posted a 12.7% drop compared to a 19.3% decline in April.
TSMC announced net sales for May on an unconsolidated basis were NT$24.5 billion (US$755 million), up 12.6% over the prior month but down 15.6% from May 2008. Revenues for January through May totaled NT$83.8 billion, representing a decrease of 41.1% compared to the same period of 2008.
On a consolidated basis, TSMC posted net sales of NT$ 25.3 billion in May, an increase of 12.5% sequentially but a 15.3% drop on year. Revenues for the first five months of the year totaled NT$87.2 billion, down 40.3% from NT$146.1 a year ago.
