DRAM contract prices to rise in July

Friday, June 26, 2009

Supply in the DRAM contract market will tighten in July as demand from PC makers grows strong, as a result pricing is set to rise, according to industry sources. DRAM module makers have recently received more orders from PC makers and expect orders to continue growing through third-quarter 2009.

The DRAM spot market has been shrinking due to Taiwan-based chipmakers' financial troubles, prompting PC OEMs to secure more supply from module makers, indicated the sources.

Contract prices for DRAM chips have started showing signs of a rebound contrary to weak spot trading, the sources said. The price gap between branded finished memory chips and eTT (effective tested) chips is expected to widen significantly in the second half of 2009.

DRAM contract prices have remained unchanged in the second half of June, falling short of market expectations, according to previous reports.
