Flextronics International has obtained OEM orders for notebook from Hewlett-Packard (HP) and will begin to ship two models as early as the end of September 2009 with an initial monthly volume of 50,000 units.
With Flextronics has recently announced to establish a notebook R&D facility in Taiwan and will employ over 1,500 engineers over the next few years, sources believe Flextronics' strategy will create a headhunting war in notebook industry since Flextronics is expected to offer a better package than Taiwan-based notebook makers.
President of Flextronics' computing segment, Sean Burke noted that the notebook industry has always been competitive and therefore headhunting is just a regular strategy for notebook players.
