Infineon has terminated the short-time schedule for most of its Austrian workers ahead of schedule. The move reflects the improving market situation for the semiconductor company. According to media releases in Austria, for 800 Infineon workers the period of reduced hour working seems to be over. Originally scheduled until end of September, the reduced working scheme will terminate by end of July as a consequence of the improved order situation. The 800 workers will resume their normal working scheme by August 1. Another 340 employees in Austria will continue to work on short time schedule.
In 2008, Infineon Austria reduced its headcount by 300. Despite the fact that the parent concern recently announced the return to profitability on an operating basis, the crisis is not yet over, Infineon Austria warned. With the order situation still being weak, the crisis is not yet over, warned Infineon Austria CEO Monika Kircher Kohl. Nevertheless, the company already sees supply bottlenecks for some products.
