Acer said it expects its notebook shipments for 2009 top 30 million units, surpassing its original target of 28 million units, according to sources at Taiwan OEM makers, who cited the positive second-half revenues outlook.
Acer shipped around 23 million notebooks in 2008, 5.8 million units in the first quarter of 2009, and 6.6 million in the second. Adding an estimated more than nine million units in both the third and fourth quarters, the company will be able to ship over 30 million units, the sources noted.
However, consumer reaction to Windows 7 and the recovery of component shortages will be key to whether Acer can realize shipments of nine million units in the fourth quarter.
