The supply of NAND flash memory card substrates has recently fallen short of demand but is expected to ease in October, according to Taiwan-based semiconductor material supplier Niching Industrial. Niching distributes products from Korea-based Simmtech, a manufacturer of memory module-related multi-layered PCBs.
Niching indicated the gap between its supply from Simmtech and orders from downstream companies has reached over 10%, and Simmtech is urgently expanding equipment to solve this situation.
Niching's revenues from memory product lines are expected to continue growing in the fourth quarter despite a sharp decline orders from ProMOS Technologies, said company president Chang Hung-Gi. Growth momentum in the segment will be significant next year driven by orders from new customers, Chang noted. The company added three DRAM and NAND flash customers in 2009.
Niching also distributes chip trays for chip on film (COF) and chip on glass (COG) substrates for LCD driver ICs. Demand for COF substrates has dropped slightly while orders for chip trays have no signs of decrease. Chang expects the LCD driver IC as well as packaging and testing sectors in the fourth quarter will hold level with the third.
Market watchers estimate Niching will see its fourth-quarter revenues grow within 10% sequentially.
NIching has recently acquired the distribution right of DNP optical films covering handset and notebook products, and the company is looking forward to validation from TV customers. Chang expects this product line to grow significantly and bring NT$100 million in revenues in 2010.
