Asustek Computer unveiled a workstation (ESC1000) in Taiwan developed in cooperation with Nvidia and Taiwan's National Chiao Tung University (NCTU). The system is designed for use in scientific studies, with government and research organizations targeted as customers.
Asustek and National Chiao Tung University worked together to develop the ESC1000 based on Nvidia's Tesla GPU and CUDA technology, which integrates a high-speed graphics interface, and parallel computing technologies, and can substantially reduce the size of the supercomputer to the size of a desktop computer (DT) while still delivering up to 1.1 teraflops of floating-point computing power, Asustek stated at the unveiling. Nvidia CEO Jen-Hsun Huang also attended the event.
Asustek noted that the supercomputer will be able to help scientists and professionals work on medical research, climate modeling and financial risk management.
The ESC1000 will sell at price points starting at US$14,778
