Fullpower, founded in 2003, has specialized in the development of sensor interpretation systems. Fullpower has developed the MotionX Recognition Engine software, designed to take sensor inputs and perform gesture recognition, pedestrian navigation, and image stabilization among other functions.

TI said it plans to combine Fullpower's MotionX technology with TI's MSP430 microcontrollers (MCUs) to create a hardware-software combination that enables developers to differentiate portable devices such as smart phones, sports equipment, gaming equipment and bluetooth headsets with motion sensing technology as well as extended battery life. Fullpower first demonstrated the MotionX-Recognition Engine performing with MSP430 in May 2009.

"MotionX does for motion what a great speech recognition engine does for speech, and MSP430 is the ideal platform to embed MotionX in portable devices," said Philippe Kahn CEO of Fullpower, in a statement issued by TI.

"MotionX is a game-changing technology for motion detection, as it enables sensor-enhanced portable devices to sophisticatedly and intelligently understand environments and adjust through simple gestures," said Scott Roller, general manager of the MSP430 platform, in the same statement.
