Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. is planning to spend around 7 trillion won (about $6 billion) on expanding its semiconductor business in 2010, according to a Korea Herald report that cited an un-named source.
About 5 trillion won is to be spent on DRAM and 2 trillion won on NAND flash memory and logic production, the report quoted the source as saying.
The investment would represent a 75 percent increase from the 4 trillion won (about $3.4 billion) Samsung is expected to spend in 2009. The company had said it planned to spend more than 5.5 trillion won when it announced its third quarter financial results in October, the report said.
