Rexchip Electronics has said it is scheduled to increase its DDR3 wafer starts share to 70% and production share to 50% in the first quarter of 2010. DDR3 accounted for 40% of its total DRAM output in 2009.
Rexchip, which now uses Elpida's 65nm node to produce its DDR3 chips, aims to convert all of its 12-inch chip production (80,000 wafers a month) to Elpida's 40nm process by the end of 2010. It will start producing 2Gb DDR3 chips using Elpida's 40nm 6F2 process in the second quarter.
PSC earlier stated it would also lift the share of DDR3 wafer starts in the first quarter, and, by the end of March, the proportion will reach 75%. PSC has seen its DDR3 output grow to more than 15 million 1Gb chips with 65nm processes reaching satisfactory yields.
PSC has reported it swung to a net profit in the fourth quarter of 2009 after 10 consecutive quarterly losses.
Spot prices for 1300MHz 1Gb DDR3 chips averaged US$3.02 during the afternoon trading session of January 12, following a price hike over the past week, according to DRAMeXchange. However, average prices for 800MHz 1Gb DDR2 chips trended down to reflect drops in demand.
