Asustek Computer expects to ship 25 million motherboards in 2010, up 20% from 21 million units in 2009, according to Chewei Lin, vice president of Asustek.
Lin expects the company will ship five million units in the first quarter of 2010, mainly benefiting by recovering demand from Europe as well as Lunar New Year demand from China.
Shipments in the second quarter of 2010 will break six million units to reach a total of over 11 million units for the first half of the year. The company aims to ship a further 14 million units in the second half.
Asustek had an about 33% share of the global motherboard market in 2009 and is aiming to achieve 50% in 2014, Lin said.
Lin believes that emerging markets such as China and Brazil have a lot of potential for the motherboard industry. In 2009, China's total motherboard shipments reached about 20 million units and Asustek supplied about 35% of them. Lin expects China's total shipments will grow about 6% on year in 2010.
