Micron Technology has formed a 50:50 joint venture with Origin Energy Ltd. (Sydney, Australia) to focus on the development of photovoltaic technology.
Micron was reported in May 2009 to be seeking up to $5 million in stimulus funds from the Idaho Office of Energy Resources to help it diversify into the use of its silicon manufacturing capacity for solar power.
Origin Energy is Australasia's leading integrated energy company focused on gas and oil exploration and production, power generation and energy retailing. The company is listed on the Australian Stock Exchange and is in the ASX top 20 and has approximately 4,000 employees. The company services more than 3.5 million electricity, natural gas and liquefied petroleum gas customers across Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific.
