Hynix reports 32% rise in 4th Quarter profit

Hynix Semiconductor has announced revenues for the fourth quarter of 2009 grew 32% on quarter driven by rising DRAM and NAND flash shipments and a rebound in DRAM ASPs.

Hynix reported consolidated revenues of 2.8 trillion won (US$2.47 billion) in the quarter ended December 31, 2009, compared to 2.12 trillion won in the prior quarter and 1.51 trillion won in fourth-quarter 2008.

Hynix said its DRAM ASPs and shipments rose by 26% and 12%, respectively, on quarter in the fourth quarter. As to NAND flash, ASPs slid 5% sequentially with bit growth of 37% in the quarter, according to the company.

Hynix reported net income of 657 billion won for the fourth quarter, which marked its second profitable quarter in a row. The memory chip supplier swung to profits of 246 billion won in the quarter ended September 30, 2009, following seven consecutive quarterly losses.

Hynix still saw net losses of 333 billion won in full-year 2009, but the figure showed improvement compared to losses of 4.38 trillion won in 2008. Operating income for 2009 turned positive from losses of 1.92 trillion in 2008.
