DRAM maker Powerchip Semiconductor Corporation (PSC) has decided to resume its China fab project, and selected Xuzhou, Jiangsu Province as the location for the 8-inch facility, according to a Chinese-language Economic Daily News (EDN) report citing market sources.
PSC is mulling plans to invest around two billion yuan (US$293 million) in the new Xuzhou fab, and work with local enterprises and government organizations via some form of partnership, the paper said.
Along with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) and ProMOS Technologies, PSC has already received approval from the Taiwan government to produce 8-inch wafers on 0.18-micron or or less advanced processes in China. However, only PSC has made no progress.
