The microcontroller (MCU) market is expected to reach $12.3 billion in 2010, up 14 percent from 2009, according to Databeans Inc.
The MCU market fell 21 percent in revenue in 2009, due in large part to the downturn. ''However, with their wide variety of uses, including automotive, computer, consumer, communications and industrial uses, microcontrollers are slated to recover this year and grow steadily to $18.5 billion dollars in 2015,'' according to the research firm.
Microcontroller suppliers include Renesas Electronics, Freescale Semiconductor, Infineon Technologies, Microchip Technology, and Fujitsu. Renesas, including newly acquired NEC, was the top supplier in 2009 with an estimated combined 29 percent share. Freescale was number two with 10 percent share.
