ProMOS report loss in 1st Quarter 2010

Tuesday, May 4, 2010

ProMOS Technologies has reported net losses of NT$3.23 billion (US$103 million) for the first quarter of 2010, showing improvement compared to losses of NT$5.27 billion in the prior quarter and losses of NT$9.41 billion a year ago.

ProMOS said March revenues were already very close to break-even and that the company expects to swing to profits in the second quarter.

ProMOS also indicated migrating to more advanced process would further improve its cost structure. The company was quoted in previous reports saying pilot runs of 2Gb DDR3 production using Elpida Memory's 63nm process have begun, with mass production slated for August.

ProMOS will recognize an investment gain of NT$2.65 billion in the second quarter for the sale of its manufacturing site at the Hsinchu Science Park (HSP) to Macronix International.

ProMOS generated revenues of NT$4.27 billion in the first quarter, a 135.5% jump from 2009. First-quarter revenues also grew by 28% compared to levels in fourth-quarter 2009.

ProMOS suffered net losses of NT$23.23 billion, or NT$3.2 a share, in 2009, compared to losses of NT$36.09 billion, or NT$5.24 a share, in 2008.
