Yet another Chinese employee of contract electronics manufacturer Foxconn has fallen fell to their death, according to a Xinhua report, that cited the company and local police in Shenzhen as its sources.
The deceased, a 24-year-old woman surnamed Zhu, died at around 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday (May 11), the report said. Zhu, was from Henan province in central China and had joined Foxconn in August 2009, the report added.
This is the sixth Foxconn employee to commit suicide by jumping since the beginning of 2010, and two other employees have been hurt trying to kill themselves, the report said.
Zhu was on leave when she jumped out of her rented apartment in the Longhua district.
In March 2010, a 23-year-old graduate named Liu died when he fell from the 14th floor of a dormitory building in the Longhua Industrial Park.
Foxconn is the trade name of the Taiwan based firm Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. Ltd. (Taipei, Taiwan). Foxconn is the largest manufacturer of electronics and computer systems worldwide, and mainly manufactures on contract to other companies. Foxconn, which has many factories in China, is said to manufacture many different products on behalf of Apple as well as cell phones for a number of leading brands and games consoles for Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft.
Foxconn employs more than 300,000 workers at its Longhua manufacturing plants in Shenzhen and is said to employ more than 486,000 worldwide.
