Wal-Mart today began selling the 16GB version of the iPhone for $97 with a two-year AT&T contract.
The price cut is down from $197. We checked the Wal-Mart website and the deal appears to be available only in stores.
Apple declined to comment that the $97 pricetag is slightly lower than the $99 clearance price some tech analysts had pegged for the phone ahead of a new model coming out. The model was still $199 elsewhere this morning, including the Apple web site and AT&T.
