Nanya plans to produce Mobile DRAM in 3Q 2010

Tuesday, June 15, 2010

Nanya Technology plans to start production of mobile RAM chips in small volumes in the third quarter, according to the company. Nanya will mainly offer low-power DDR and DDR2 products, in densities ranging from 256Mb to 2Gb.

Nanya's entry into the mobile RAM segment will help reduce its dependence on standard DRAM, and extend its market reach beyond PCs.

Nanya spokesperson Pei Lin Pai said sales of mobile RAM will grow substantially in 2011, and expressed optimism about demand for the chip used in handsets and consumer electronics products such as digital TVs and 3D TVs.

Nanya's mobile RAM chips will be mainly manufactured at its 12-inch fab, according to Pai.

Nanya revealed in its most recent financial statement that its mobile RAM business is expected to account for 2-3% of its total revenues in 2010.
