HTC to ship 24 Million smartphones in 2nd half of 2010

Wednesday, July 7, 2010

Taiwan based - HTC will ship 60-70% more smartphones in the second half of 2010 compared with that of the first half to post full-year shipments approaching 24 million units, according to handset component suppliers.

Sources pointed out that HTC set an internal target of 24 million units in early-2010, but no component suppliers believed it possible at the time with plenty of uncertainties still surrounding the global economy.

In the first-half of the year, the Taiwan-based smartphone vendor had 8.7 million smartphone shipments and generated NT$98.23 billion (US$3.06 billion) in revenues. Its second-quarter sales grew 58.45% on year to set a new quarterly record at NT$60.53 billion, and exceeded the NT$50 billion market forecast.

A healthy mix of entry-level-to-high-end devices have allowed HTC to increase its ASP modestly to US$340-350 in the second quarter with an average gross margin of 30.3-30.5%, according to market watchers.

Orders will remain strong entering the traditional peak season in the third quarter, said the sources, noting that the company were actually unable to fulfill all customer orders in the first half due to component and material shortages.
