Hewlett-Packard (HP) and Acer are set to ship 11 million and 10 million notebooks, respectively, in the third quarter of 2010, up 30% from 8.5 million units and 15-20% from 8.1 million units in the second quarter, according to sources from notebook players.
Expecting key component prices to drop and the euro exchange rate to stabilize later in the third quarter, Acer has postponed several orders from July to August and September to reduce costs, while HP has increased its September shipments forecast.
However, notebook makers are still maintaining their shipment forecasts for the third quarter with Quanta expecting to see 10-20% growth sequentially, Compal 5-6%, and Wistron 10-15%
