Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry) shipped over six million notebooks in the first half of 2010 and is expected to have no trouble reaching its goal of shipping 10 million for 2010.

Benefiting from strong notebook orders from brands including Hewlett-Packard (HP), Foxconn was able to ship 3-4 million notebooks each quarter in the first half.

For 2011, since Foxconn has already landed orders for 10 million notebooks from HP, five million units from Dell and 2-3 million from Sony, as well as some expected orders from Asustek, the company should easily achieve and even surpass its goal of shipping 20 million notebooks.

However, competition for orders is also expected to further lower notebook makers' gross margins in 2011 from 4% in 2010.
