Acer plans to develop and launch tablet PCs and predict Android-based tablets will be competitive with the iPad, said the company's Taiwan president Scott Lin.
Acer will introduce a Tablet PC based on the Wintel platform in the fourth quarter to test the market, and an Android-enabled device in early 2011.
In the smartphone segment, Lin indicated that Android will continue to be the company's main focus. Acer will ship two million smartphones in 2010 and 5-6 million in 2011, with the majority running on Android. Product development using Microsoft operating systems will depend on the software company's plans down the line, Lin added.
