Falling Flash prices not due to Apple

Friday, September 17, 2010

This time around the NAND Flash market is suffering from falling prices. Digitimes reports that their sources say that Apple's orders of Flash chips for their iOS devices is not driving up the price of NAND flash in the channel.

Usually the flash chip supply is short when Apple rolls out new products. Apparentely now there is plenty of Flash chips and it seems sales of other consumer electronics that use Flash chips is weak.

Falling Flash prices is though good for us consumers. Lower NAND prices means lower prices and higher capacity devices. Why are we still stuck with 64GB iPods and iPads? Let's pack some more Flash if there is plenty to be had.
