Gigabyte Technology has revealed that its shipments of motherboards increase substantially in September which will bring total motherboard shipments for the third quarter of 2010 to at least 5.2 million units.
Order visibility for the fourth quarter is not yet clear with motherboard shipments likely to drop slightly from the third, but the company will be able to reach its target of shipping 19-20 million motherboards in 2010, according to vice president Richard Ma.
With motherboard shipments reaching its goal, its networking business gaining momentum, and losses in the notebook and smartphone units narrowing, Gigabyte is expected to snap up an EPS of NT$3.3-3.5 in 2010, according to an estimate by industry sources.
Thanks for STB (set-top box) orders from Google's TV platform, Gigabyte also expects its revenues for the fourth quarter to be at the same level as that recorded in the third, Ma indicated.
Shipments of notebooks will be lower than expected, reaching about 250,000 units in 2010 compared to 200,000 in 2009, said Ma, noting that Gigabyte plans to launch a 15-inch Sandy Bridge-based gaming notebook in January 2011.
Gigabyte has also revised its handset development policy and has teamed up with Motorola for joint design and production of handsets.
