Samsung Electronics To Roll Out Galaxy Smartphone

Monday, October 11, 2010 Samsung Electronics said it will start selling its flagship Galaxy smartphones in South Korea from this week through KT Corp. (KT), as part of its efforts to strengthen its competitive edge in the country's fast-growing smart phone market.

Following the latest launch, the phone will be available for sale through the country's three mobile carriers, SK Telecom Co. (SKM), the second-largest carrier KT, and the smallest LG Uplus, the company said in a statement.

Since its global debut in late June, the electronics giant has sold over 5 million Galaxy smartphones worldwide as of the end of September.

The model, named "Galaxy K" runs on Google Inc.'s (GOOG) Android 2.2 operating system and features a 1-gigahertz CPU, a 3.7-inch touch-screen display, and will support Adobe Flash Player 10.1. It will also allow users to download content and applications from Google's online app store Android Market, Samsung's "Samsung Apps" and KT's "Olleh Market", the company said.

Samsung will launch the product in black and white colors and the price will be US$718.
