German government funds Plastic Logic

Tuesday, October 19, 2010 Plastic Logic, the developer of the now-cancelled Que e-reader, has expanded its collaboration with the Leibniz Institute of Polymer Research in Dresden, Germany.

Plastic Logic GmbH and and the Leibniz Institute for Polymer Research Dresden (IPF) have announced the extension of an existing collaboration, part funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, for another three years.

The focus will be the investigation of organic electronic components and supporting the development of organic dielectric materials.

Plastic Logic said it wanted to maintain its position as a technology leader in the development of polymer-based electronics. Dresden has become a center of excellence in organic semiconductor research.

Increasingly polymer electronics will deal with multiple layers of a thickness of a single organic molecule. Understanding the interfaces between these layers will be critical, Plastic Logic said. The close proximity between analysis at IPF and manufacturing at Plastic

Logic allows should speed up the feedback of analytical results into manufacturing and on to commercial products.

"This is another milestone in our long-term strategy for the further development and expansion of our production at this location," said Konrad Herre, vice president of manufacturing and CEO of Plastic Logic GmbH, in a statement.
