As reported, Jack Robertson, an award-winning journalist who covered the electronics industry for some five decades, died on Tuesday (Oct. 19) in Arlington, Va. He was 78.
Robertson covered the early days of the military electronics, semiconductors and other industries for Electronic News starting in the 1960s. Later, at EBN, he was perhaps best known for flying from Hong Kong, where he was on vacation, to Taiwan to cover a deadly earthquake on the island on Sept. 21, 1999. This coverage, in turn, led to Robertson and other members of EBN winning the coveted Jesse H. Neal National Business Journalism Award in 1999.
Robertson covered many subjects, including memory. Steve Appleton, CEO and chairman of Micron Technology Inc., issued the following statement about Robertson:
"Jack Robertson was always a pleasure to speak with. I spent time with Jack over the last couple of decades and can sincerely say he was one of the good guys. He was always honest, but respectful in his approach. We will miss him."
