Samsung aims at 40% in Notebook shipment growth in 2011

Wednesday, November 3, 2010

Samsung plan to ship 10-11 million notebooks globally in 2010 and, based on orders released to Taiwan, expects the global shipment volume in 2011 to increase 30-40%, much higher than the projected 15-20 % growth in global demand, according to Taiwan-based makers.

Samsung hit historically high quarterly shipments at 2.59 million notebooks in third-quarter 2010 and hit total shipments of seven million units during the first three quarters, the sources indicated. Based on released orders, Samsung is estimated to ship one million notebooks or more a month in the fourth quarter, resulting in 10-11 million units cumulatively for 2010, the sources pointed out.

Through high integration of in-house produced TFT-LCD panels, memory, hard disk drives, optical disc drives and other components, Samsung notebooks are priced lower than competitors' models of equal specifications, the sources indicated. This has helped Samsung quickly climb to eighth ranking among notebook vendors, the sources noted.
