Acer adds new factory in western China

Wednesday, November 3, 2010

Acer plans to build a new global IT manufacturing center with its partners and set up a second base in China in the city of Chongqing.

The move is expected to enhance Acer's presence in China, boost the company's worldwide competitiveness, and solidify its leadership in the mobile-PC market, the company announced.

Efforts made by the China government to enhance western China's overall infrastructure have resulted in the emergence of a new IT community. The additional benefit of stable manpower supplies means that the move to western China can expand Acer's presence in the country and raise competitiveness on a global scale.

Acer has chosen Chongqing for its excellent infrastructure including a sufficient and stable supply of manpower, good utilities such as water and electricity, and for the city government's expertise and administrative efficiency. Moreover, Chongqing is a transportation hub with convenient links to Europe and southeast China, Acer said.

Chongqing will become Acer's second China headquarters, and the company will draw up specific go-to-market plans for western China. The contract signing with the Chongqing city government will take place in December 2010.

Acer began its discussions with the Chongqing city government more than six months ago. A taskforce was formed to survey the location and report findings, which were carefully reviewed and evaluated by Acer's core management team before reaching this consensus, Acer said.
